Scroll-stopping visual content ideas for your business
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Try watching a classic film from a few decades ago, and one of the first things you’ll notice is how s l o w everything seems. Over the years the pacing of media has increased dramatically, as we’re bombarded by more and more content. Social media is only accelerating that trend, so it’s no wonder businesses face constant pressure to be different and stand out from the crowd.
The good news is you don’t need to invent something extraordinary to stand out. But it is worth looking at some of the more underutilised forms of content.
It can be really hard to create the right content and find inspiration for it, so here are some ideas to help you earn your viewers’ attention and stop them scrolling endlessly.
Visual content ideas for businesses:
Digital illustrations
Illustrations are a great option if you want to create something different.
There are many different styles and types of illustrations, and they can be great for enhancing a marketing message, adding emotion and adding originality. Because they are so versatile, they are also a great tool to highlight your unique brand personality.
There are loads of ways to use them from turning photos into illustrations, to bringing original concepts and ideas into life.
You can use them on social media, in email marketing, on your website, as a design element that you can integrate into other promo material. They are versatile assets that you can keep reusing.
Even better they are a great alternative to the generic, over-used stock photography that is used everywhere.
Animations
You can take illustrations and digital art to the next level by animating it.
You can create anything from branded GIFs, animated logos to explainer videos and commercials.
Add movement to blogs and articles, bring your website to life, or simply catch eyes with some subtle motion.
More and more businesses are using animation to great effect. They use it to explain certain features of their services, present their products and services in a creative way and connect with their audience in a more emotional way by showcasing their unique brand personality.
Again, it also tends to save money over investing in full video production.
Here is a great example of how UberEats use animation in their marketing, for a creative, contemporary feel:
Infographics
Infographics are ideal for presenting processes, data and complex information in an appealing, easy-to-understand way.
Infographics are a real art form. Their role is to present something that would be a big, intimidating chunk of text into an engaging visual.
Effective infographics are a balance between simplicity, information and visuals. If only one thing is off the balance, you risk having an infographic that feels messy and unpleasant for the eye, or lacks information or meaning.

Video content ideas
The popularity of video content keeps growing. Thanks to platforms like TikTok and YouTube, that’s unlikely to change any time soon.
Even Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app, having pivoted their focus towards video and shopping. So if you have been avoiding getting on camera so far I’m afraid it’s time to get on board with it.
While videos are associated with big budgets, thanks to great apps and smartphones with good cameras, you can have budget-friendly videos without compromising quality.
Here are some ideas that are easy to make and attention-grabbing:
Cinemagraphs
Cinemagraphs are a blend of a photograph and a video – an isolated area of the image will contain a subtle motion from the video that plays in a never-ending loop, while the rest of it stays static. A bit like the paintings in Harry Potter.
The reason why cinemagraphs perform so well, especially on social media, is because they surprise viewers when they come to life with subtle motion.
In marketing, cinemagraphs are great to put a focus on a product, or a specific action that is related to your services and products. Here are some examples to give you some inspiration:
Stop motion videos
Stop motion is an animation made one frame at a time. Here, you move and manipulate objects physically between each frame. Just think of Wallace and Gromit.
Stop motion is extremely popular on social media, probably because they are both engaging, full of character and (can be) easy to create – you can do it using only your phone, a tripod and a free app called Life Lapse, for example.
You start by setting the scene and taking a photo of it. Then move the objects slightly, take another photo and repeat this until you have taken the photos of all the scenes. When you play all the photos one after the other at a higher speed, they create an illusion of fluid movement.
To make them even more engaging, you can add illustrated elements to them, like in the example below:
